How long have you been with Selective and what made you join us?
I joined Selective over seven years ago, embarking on a journey that has been nothing short of remarkable. As an immigrant who came to America in pursuit of the American dream, Selective holds a special place in my heart for being the first company I joined when I moved here. The opportunity that Selective provided has been a cornerstone of my professional and personal growth, and I am deeply grateful for the experiences and support I've received during my time here.
What is the most exciting aspect of your job?
The most exciting aspect of my job as a Technical Scrum Master and Team Lead is the opportunity to engage with a diverse group of team members, each with their unique personalities. I find it incredibly rewarding to foster a collaborative environment where everyone can excel. Witnessing the team's collective success, their development, and the way their contributions merge to achieve significant outcomes is exciting and reflects our shared commitment to excellence.
How would you describe your role and what does a typical day look like?
My role revolves around guiding and supporting team members through all Agile ceremonies, setting clear goals, and driving productivity and efficiency. A typical day includes tackling both technical and non-technical challenges that emerge during development, resolving any impediments that may hinder the team or individual progress, such as environmental downtimes or knowledge gaps. I am actively part of the technical design discussions for the team and reviewing designs with the architects. I also conduct code reviews to ensure quality and adherence to coding standards and best practices. Additionally, I aim to facilitate open communication within the team and with external stakeholders, ensuring everyone is up to date on project statuses and any changes.
What key lessons have you learned throughout your time at Selective?
I've learned the value of seeking ways to simplify processes and remove obstacles, enabling our team to produce our best work. Effective delegation is another critical lesson; assigning the right person to tackle a specific problem can make a significant difference. Having a mentor for guidance and acting on constructive feedback has been immensely beneficial for my career development. Lastly, I’ve come to understand that it's perfectly acceptable to not have all the answers and that reaching out for help when faced with unresolved challenges is a sign of strength, not weakness.
What makes you feel ‘Uniquely You’ while at work?
At Selective, my journey from a developer to a technical lead, and now to leading a team, has been greatly influenced by my unique problem-solving skills and my ability to connect with people. These personal attributes have not only allowed me to contribute significantly to our projects but have also been recognized and nurtured within the company's culture that values and empowers individuality.
