Selective Drive Owner Setup

Mandatory Setup

Please follow a setup option below. You must complete a setup option in order for devices to function.

Owner assigns all devices through mobile app.

Setup Option A requires Owner to complete all steps through the Selective Drive mobile app.

1. Download App

Download your mobile app here or from the link included in the text invite from 714-733-2313. Enter your mobile phone number. Your login passcode will be sent automatically via text message.

2. Assign Devices
Bring your device to the vehicle you wish to assign. From the app: 

  1. Select the vehicle from the list
  2. Plug in a device
  3. Follow the instructions on your screen
  4. Once assigned, the device needs to remain in that vehicle.

Repeat these steps for all vehicles, plugging each device in one vehicle at a time. Please note that after one device has been assigned, you can find a list of vehicles from the Vehicles tab in the menu bar. A red badge will indicate the number of vehicles needing device assignment.

3. Invite Users
From the Menu bar:

  1. Click Users
  2. Click Invite Users
  3. Enter User Information
  4. Continue to Tracking
  5. Choose whether you would like to track all vehicles or specific vehicles
  6. All Vehicles: Click Save
    Specific Vehicles: Toggle on vehicle choices, click Save, and click Save again.

If you don't want to assign management permissions, click Send Invite. Users will receive a text message inviting them to set up their accounts. Setup for Option A is complete.
If you want to assign management permissions to specific users, continue to step 4.

4. Assign Permissions
To turn Management Permissions on, continue to Management. 

  1. Choose a vehicle option
  2. To apply permissions to all vehicles, select All Vehicles. Click Save.
    To apply permissions to select vehicles, toggle on vehicle choices. Click Save, and click Save again.

  3. Choose Features
  4. Toggle Device Assignment ON, as well as any other management features of your choice.

  5. Click Send Invite – Users will receive a text message inviting them to set up their accounts. 

5. Invite Remaining Users
From the Menu bar

  1. Click Users
  2. Click Invite Users
  3. Enter User Information
  4. Continue to Tracking
  5. Choose whether you would like to track all vehicles or specific vehicles
  6. All Vehicles: Click Save
    Specific Vehicles: Toggle on vehicle choices, click Save, and click Save again

  7. Click Send Invite - they will receive a text message inviting them to set up their accounts

Owner & Manager(s) assign devices through mobile app.

Setup Option B requires the completion of all steps through the Selective Drive mobile app. In order for Manager(s) to assist in device assignment, Owner must complete the following steps.

1. Download App
Download your mobile app here or from the link included in the text invite from 714-733-2313. Enter your mobile phone number. Your login passcode will be sent automatically via text message. 

2. Assign Devices & Vehicles
Bring your device to the vehicle you wish to assign. From the app: 

  1. Select the vehicle from the list
  2. Plug in a device
  3. Follow the instructions on your screen

Once assigned, the device needs to remain in that vehicle.

3. Invite Users
From the Menu bar

  1. Click Users
  2. Click Invite Users
  3. Enter User Information
  4. Continue to Tracking
  5. Choose whether you would like to track all vehicles or specific vehicles

All Vehicles: Click Save
Specific Vehicles: Toggle on vehicle choices, click Save, and click Save again

4. Assign Permissions

Users assign devices.

In order for Users to be able to assign their own devices, Owner must complete the following steps from the web portal (not on a mobile device).

1. Download App

Get Selective Drive Mobile App Download your mobile app here or from the link included in the text invite from 714-733-2313. Enter your mobile phone number. Your login passcode will be sent automatically via text message. Go to Web Portal on a Computer Log in to the web portal to complete the following steps. You can keep directions open on your mobile device or on a separate tab.

 

2. Invite Users
From the web portal menu

  1. Click Settings
  2. Click Users
  3. Click Invite Users
  4. Enter User Information
  5. Continue to Tracking
  6. Choose whether you would like to track all vehicles or specific vehicles
  7. All Vehicles: Click Save
    Specific Vehicles: Toggle on vehicle choices, click Save, and click Save again

 

3. Assign Permissions

Using Data

The items below breakdown the information that Selective Drive collects. There are also resources you can use as an Owner to successfully incorporate Selective Drive into your fleet's safe-driving culture.

Account Owner and Manager(s) have the option to receive alerts and notifications.

  • Trip start and stop: Push notifications in real-time
  • Drive Time Limit: Driving outside of the designated time window
  • Boundaries: When entering or exiting designated radius
  • Speeding: Occurs once vehicle reaches greater than or equal to 10 mph over posted speed limit and is sustained for more than 10 seconds
  • Phone calls: when a call is made or received via Bluetooth and/or integrated car phone system
  • Crash Detection: Account Owners receive a text after a device senses an impact/possible crash
  • Harsh braking/Acceleration/Turns
  • Phone Usage: measure when the phone is physically unlocked during the trip
  • Locations: arriving at designated GPS point
  • Mileage limit: driving over the designated distance threshold
  • Score: A unique numeric rating for each user based on their individual driving events and activities. Inputs to the score include speed, miles driven, driving time, harsh braking, harsh acceleration, phone usage, and phone calls while operating the vehicle. Set a benchmark that reflects your business culture and needs. 

Run reports to analyze driving trends, rather than focusing on individual alerts

  • Score Report: Includes user's trip count, distance, start/stop time, alerts, road type and score
  • Fuel Usage: View the vehicle's hours/distance driven, estimated fuel use/cost, and idle time/cost
  • Vehicle Maintenance: View Vehicle's current odometer, service location, and service item
  • Trip Report: Displays all trip details including, but not limited to distance, idle time, locations, and alerts
  • Driving Alerts: An overview of alerts, drive time, mileage, and idle time 

Invest time to focus on a plan intended to improve driving behavior

  • Take into account the user's environment e.g. type of roads, urban vs rural, time of day
  • Company culture can affect score e.g. deadlines, scheduling, productivity demands, client calls
  • Measure strengths and weaknesses of user's performance
  • Context scoring- if all users are operating vehicles in similar road environments, their scores should be comparable 
  • Average or below score may need possible remediation at employers discretion

Validate employee cooperation by creating your own unique, safe driving rewards program

  • Relay the intentions of the program and how the rewards will be achieved. Clarify to the users how you will operate your unique rewards system.
  • Create and communicate clear, achievable goals based on user performance, safety, and fuel efficiency. Difficult goals tend to reduce user motivation.
  • Remember to maintain the spirit of friendly competition in an effort to boost morale, while reflecting positively on the company.
  • Reward your users for safe driving behavior. The company's safety culture and goals should be the foundation of the program.

Emphasize the benefits of the program

  • Continue to communicate the importance of the program
  • Focus attention on the value of decreased distracted driving, optimized fleet management, and maintained vehicle health
